My Team Gets to Ask the Questions as We Celebrate 300 Episodes!

behind the scenes Jul 01, 2025

Celebrate 300 episodes as Krista's team interviews her about homeschooling, business growth, virtual summit trends, and Summit in a Box evolution.

This week's episode is extra special - it's episode 300! I can't believe we've made it this far, and honestly, I never thought I had that much to say about virtual summits. But here we are!

To celebrate this milestone, I decided to do something fun and let my amazing team flip the script on me. Instead of interviewing guests or sharing strategies, they got to grill me with questions about everything from rapid-fire preferences to juggling homeschooling and business ownership.

You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at who I am as a person beyond the business, how I manage the beautiful chaos of homeschooling while running Summit in a Box, and my thoughts on the evolution of virtual summits over the past five years. Plus, you'll hear about my favorite non-productive hobbies (yes, it's possible to have those), and get some insight into how I decide which of my many ideas actually make it to reality.

[0:49] Rapid Fire Fun Questions with Kate
We kick things off with some quick personal questions on everything from mountains vs. beach to whether I'd rather have a dance party or do karaoke (spoiler: neither, unless kids are involved!). The team was giggling at some of my answers, especially my honest take on my cats, despite being a cat owner.

[2:18] Getting to Know Krista the Human with Elli
Elli asked me to share what I do purely for fun when I'm not being productive. I share about my love for cozy fantasy books, crocheting creatures and animals (but only in winter!), and my new obsession with watercolor painting, and taking a new "Watercolor for Relaxation" course that lets me turn my brain off and make pretty things.

[4:37] The Journey to Actually Taking Time Off
Enjoying non-productive things and intentionally taking time off is somewhat new for me. Next, we explore how I've slowly learned to step away from work without feeling like everything will fall apart. This has been a years-long process of tiny steps, growing my faith, and learning to trust that the business is strong enough to survive me taking a break. The breakthrough came when I realized that taking time off doesn't just help me, it actually makes the business stronger.

[8:28] Juggling Momming, Homeschooling, and Business with Mel
Mel asked what it's been like to run this business while homeschooling and how I juggle it all. The honest answer: I have a lot of help, and it's still not always easy. I get honest about the struggles, the rhythm-based approach that works for me, and why I'm very conscious about trying to be present and not sneak in work time outside of work hours. I also have A LOT of help at home, and there's no way I'd be able to do it without that.

[16:42] The Perks of Business Owner Mom Life
I share what I love most about running my own business while raising kids – the flexibility to completely shift priorities in an instant, being able to show them what it looks like to love your work, and getting to learn alongside them. Plus, some adorable stories about my oldest wanting to "work with mommy" when she grows up.

[20:09] When I Knew Summit in a Box® Would Actually Work with Kate
Kate takes us back to the beginning and asks when I realized this business was actually going to be something. Even though I still have moments when I still ask myself that question, the first Summit in a Box® course launch in April of 2020 was beyond anything I had imagined. That launch brought in $60,000 – more than most people in my area make in a year. That's when I went from "this is nice" to "wait, what just happened?!"

[25:31] The Biggest Changes in Virtual Summits Over Five Years with Jenn
Jenn gets nerdy about business trends, and I share what I think has been the biggest shift in the virtual summit space. The coolest change? Summits went from being something only the biggest names in the industry were doing to being accessible for anyone, even brand-new business owners with tiny lists. I like to think we've contributed to that.

[27:21] How I Decide Which Wild Ideas to Actually Pursue
We wrap up by digging into my decision-making process for all the ideas I constantly have (and trust me, there are a lot). I reveal that it really comes down to gut feelings more than logic. If I get that full-body "heck yes" feeling, we're doing it. If it feels like "I should do this", but doesn't feel great? It never goes well.
